Graphene oxide has numerous applications in several scientific fields including electrical, environmental, energy, and other sectors. Given their significance, the present study was conducted to produce nanographene oxide from locally produced graphite dust. The production yielded 87% nanographene oxide through Hummer’s method. The synthesized product showed stretching vibrations due to  C-O and also displayed highly porous surfaces as distinct from those observed in the FTIR spectrum and SEM micrograph of the precursor respectively. The study adds to existing literature that nanographene oxide can be synthesized from graphite dust by Hummer’s method
